Tribal leaders (or their representative designee) along with Tribal health program leadership are invited to a Tribal consultation regarding care coordination for Veterans receiving care under Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Indian Health Service/Tribal Health Program (IHS/THP) Reimbursement Agreement Program (RAP).
VA continues to seek input on how to ensure American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Veterans who need care beyond what is offered directly within IHS/THP facilities are able to get that care seamlessly, either in VA medical facilities or in the community. VA established the Healthcare Coordination Advisory Board, with participation from IHS and tribes, to assist in developing and implementing standardized processes for care coordination (Attachment A). VA will present the recommendations for health care coordination activities and seek attendees’ feedback on the approach and implementation of activities. (Attachment B).
Participation in this Tribal consultation will assist VA in achieving the goal to enhance care coordination for AI/AN Veterans who use IHS/THP facilities participating in the RAP. Input and recommendations from Tribal leaders and other participants will assist VA in improving care coordination while ensuring VA’s responsibility to Veterans in delivering health care, either at VA or in the community. Input will also encourage collaboration between VA, IHS, and tribal health facilities for the benefit of AI/AN Veterans.
A virtual Tribal consultation session will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, from 3:30–5:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). Audio will be broadcast via the call-in number provided. Participants will interact by submitting written comments/questions using the chat function during the presentation.
